BARK RIVER-Messersmith Manufacturing Inc. of Bark River has been selected as a Michi- gan Top 50 Company to Watch in 2018.
Messersmith Manufacturing is a leader in the biomass boiler system industry. Out of its facil- ity in Bark River, Messersmith designs and manufactures industrial biomass boiler systems that serve customers in the education, health care, government and industrial sectors.
These boiler systems burn wood based biomass fuel to supply heat for facilities such as schools, college campuses, hospitals and state facilities. They can also provide steam for cus- tomers to dry lumber or generate electricity.
These boiler systems are a great cost-effective way for public and private institutions to utilize a renewable energy source and support the local forestry industry, said Messersmith co-owner Jeremy Mortl of Iron Mountain.
Messersmith has boiler systems located in 18 states from Maine to Alaska and recently began selling into Canada.
Messersmith was founded in 1982 and was purchased in 2016 by Mortl, along with Matt Col- burn of Northfield, Vermont. They currently employ 16 people from the Delta and Dickinson county areas.
There will be a banquet for the honorees in Lansing on May 3. The award is part of the Michi- gan Celebrates Small Business program.
