Windstone at Mill Creek - A New Senior Independent Living
MARQUETTE- The Lake Superior Community Partnership (LSCP) recently assisted LR Swadley with a groundbreaking ceremony for the con- struction of a new senior independent living community.
LR Swadley, Community Developer based in Marquette, announced that the groundbreaking has begun for Windstone at Mill Creek, a new senior independent living neighborhood located on a beautiful six acre parcel in the heart of Harlow Farms Conservation Community. Windstone will bring 26 two-bedroom units built in a series of cottage style duplexes. This independent living lifestyle will offer active seniors many features and amenities including a 2,100 sq. ft
- Community Center, which will serve as the lifestyle hub of the neighbor- hood. It includes a large gathering room with kitchen for parties, a pub like area for meeting friends, social activities, offices, and other services. The Center will look out on a protect- ed conservation area, with access to Harlow Farms popular nature trails. Windstone is designed to target inde- pendent living seniors who wish to lease a new, safe, home with its own attached garage, kitchen, an ADA bath, along with all the security and convenience this location provides. Additional support services will be available from across the street at Mill Creek Senior Living Community.

Valentine Joins First
Bank’s Investment Team
ESCANABA — Todd Maki, presi- dent and CEO, and Ben Zyburt Sr. vice president and manager of the Investment Management Group, First Bank, Upper Michigan, have announced Robert Valentine joined the bank’s Investment Management Group as the institutional investment officer.
Valentine had been with the city of Escanaba as treasurer for 28 years. He earned an MBA from the University of Notre Dame and his bachelor of sci- ence degree in finance from Northern Michigan University. As treasurer for the city of Escanaba, he has a depth of experience in pension plan administra- tion and management of municipal surplus funds.
First Bank’s Investment Management Group has enhanced its capabilities in the areas of pension fund investment portfolio management, governmental cash management and surplus funds investing, with Valentine specializing in these areas.
“Bob brings extensive experience to this new position from his role at the city. He has managed pension plan portfolios and will be working with foundations, endowments, govern- mental agencies, and pension funds to structure investment portfolios to a client’s individual needs,” Maki said. Valentine will be headquartered at First Bank’s 3rd Avenue North office in Escanaba, but will be available to meet with clients throughout the Upper Peninsula.
He and his wife, Lisa, reside in Escanaba and have three sons, two attending college and one at the Escanaba Area High School. He serves on the Boards of the Holy Name
Scholarship Foundation, Wildlife Unlimited, St. Joseph and St. Patrick Parish in Escanaba, and the Northern Initiatives Corporation in Marquette. Bjork Earns CISR
ISHPEMING — Iron Range Agency recently announced that Sara A. Bjork has earned the designation of Certified Insurance Service Representative, or CISR, following her successful completion of a comprehen- sive insurance education program sponsored by the Society of Certified Insurance Service Representatives.
The Society of CISR is a key member of The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research, the nation’s preeminent provider of insurance and risk management education. The pro- gram is designed to serve a variety of individuals practicing insurance so that they may better serve their clients’ needs and requirements.
Bjork has demonstrated her profes- sional competence through comple- tion of the five CISR courses and the corresponding comprehensive exami- nations that focus on all major fields of commercial casualty and property, personal residential and auto, personal lines, agency operations, life and health, and risk management.
Bjork joined Iron Range Agency in July 2016 and serves personal insur- ance clients. She lives in Ishpeming with her family.
Swadley Development LLC, is the project Developer for the Owner, Macaulay Marquette Properties LLC, a regional Senior Housing Operator based here in the Upper Peninsula. Teal Lake and Mill Creek Assisted Living, are just two of the related Senior Communities that Macaulay Marquette properties operates in the U.P.
